If Bachmann's On30 Shay is "just too big" or "old time" for your layout ... we have the perfect solution!

"The Silver City Sidewinder"  Gilpin-style Shay with Perfect Proportions!

The Silver City Sidewinder is a nearly-prototypical adaptation of the handsome two-truck, three-cylinder Gilpin locomotives specially designed to fit the smooth-running Bachmann HO 3-truck Shay.  It's the perfect size for adding "big time" operation to small and medium On30 layouts!

Absolutely LOADED with detail!  The Sidewinder includes new deck, boiler, cab, on-board tender, headlights, stacks (two types), domes, bell, piping, wood load, backhead detail ... plus separate doors, windows, roof hatch and more!

(Sample shown with toolboxes, chain and small tools sold separately.  Figure not included.  Visit our "Shay Detailing" page for additional ideas!)

"This model shows what I first loved about On30 -- the kitbashing of HO equipment to represent O scale narrow gauge equipment.  It gives the models a little more "character" ... this is the FUN of On30 that is starting to get lost on the masses.  That does not mean we have to stop modeling that way.  Great job, Dallas, and put me down for one kit please!"  -- Alan Carroll, long-time On30 modeler & kitbasher extraordinaire.

Our most detailed kit yet!  The Silver City Sidewinder features the top-quality castings you'd expect from BVM, with major assemblies such as the deck, boiler, cab and on-board tender ... plus LOADS of details, including front & rear steps, side steps, optional poling pockets, number board, front & rear oil headlights, stacks (two types), domes, bell, piping, pop valves, backhead detail, fuel loads (wood and coal), water filler lug separate doors, windows and roof hatch.  Wow!  (Visit our "Shay features" page for large photos showing the many features of this kit!)

"Just the right size!" -- These photo shows the Silver City Sidewinder with a Grandt Line Gilpin ore car, the BVM 15' Chunky Little Log Car and the BVM 15' Steel Hopper.

This little loco just screams "narrow gauge" ... and the kit is carefully designed to allow room for a full crew and space for a sound decoder and speaker if desired.

Required Chassis:  You'll need a Bachmann HO scale 3-truck Shay to provide the drive unit.  This "heavy duty" HO locomotive has large cylinders that look great in On30!

Please note:  This kit was designed PRIOR to the release of the Bachmann HO Shay with "factory installed" sound -- we have provided space that "should" accommodate these electronics.  Please visit our "Shay Sound & DCC" page for additional info!

Intermediate Skill Level:  This kit has been carefully designed for straightforward assembly, however it does include a number of small pieces and it does require some care to fit pieces properly around the HO mechanism.  If you've built any of our other loco, railcar, speeder or premium freight kits, you'll have no trouble following the detailed, illustrated instructions ... but we don't recommend this as your very first resin kit!

Delivery time / ordering options:  Delivery of this item may take 6-8 weeks!  Why?  Well, it takes a while to make the variety of precise castings included in this super-detailed kit, and we have to juggle production of these with all of our other On30 items.  We think it's worth the wait!
