"The kit that made us famous!"
Based on a prototype made by Dunkirk Engineering Company, this model features a classic backwoods look with its vertical boiler, on-board water tank and wooden cab!
"It cries out to be detailed and cluttered up for your logging layout" -- Bob Brown, NG&SL Gazette
This kit allows you to adapt an inexpensive and reliable Athearn mechanism to model this great geared steam locomotive. Kit includes over 50 high-quality resin castings, including new truck sideframes, chassis cover plates, deck, side sills, end beams, footboards, coupler boxes, water tank, cab body, motor shrouds, vertical boiler, firewood deck, roof and stack.
Enclosed cab version includes separate front doors that may be positioned partially-open as shown ... and sliding cab windows on side. Sample shown with numerous extra details not included.
Mechanism: This kit is built to fit the Athearn EMD SW-7 or Baldwin S-12 diesel chassis. While these locos are no longer in production, they are readily found at swap meets as Athearn produced a tremendous number of these models for many years.
DCC warning: The Athearn mechanisms are "old school" designs with grounded frames. Do NOT use them on DCC systems without making appropriate modfications. Consult your DCC provider and/or surf the web for appropriate info.
Alternate mechanisms: You may be able to adapt this kit to fit other EMD SW mechanisms. This will require modification of interior parts and may require replacing the water tank with a larger fitting. See Christophe Marsault's photos in the thumbnails below. Contact us for additional information.
